The Screen Makers Conference (SMC), today announced Showrunner, Writer and Producer Vicki Madden will deliver the Keynote Address at the two day screen industry conference to be held on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th July.
Madden runs her own Production Company, Sweet Potato Films, a small boutique film and TV company in her home state of Tasmania, and has just co-created, co-produced and written the critically acclaimed TV series, The Kettering Incident; a $15 million high-end drama for Foxtel, set in the dramatic landscape of Tasmania. Critics worldwide have described it as ‘groundbreaking, bold and confident storytelling that subverts and elevates the crime genre’.
With over 20 years experience locally and internationally, Vicki Madden has worked as Writer and Show-runner on such shows as Halifax fp, The Bill, (UK), Trial & Retribution (UK) The Clinic (Ireland), Water Rats and K9 (UK) to just name a few. She was also the writer of the 90-minute true crime telemovie for the 9 Network and Playmaker media Blood Brothers.
Leaning on her two decades in the industry and unrivalled storytelling prowess, Madden will lead the SMC along the tangible journey of her career. How she carved her own path from the regional wilderness of Tasmania, to the big screens of the international markets. Offering her insights to encourage writers and creatives to tell local stories and take them global; the value of writing authentically from one’s own experience and sense of place; and the importance of the role of the showrunner in TV.
MRC Director Gail Kovatseff said “Hosting Vicki Madden to give the keynote address is a huge coup for the conference, and reflects its growing importance as a key event on the national screen industry calendar”.
The Screen Makers Conference this year also offers a marketplace component where filmmakers can meet one-on-one and pitch their drama and factual ideas to leading players including Foxtel, Roadshow ABC iView and YouTube to name a few.
The screen industry is rapidly evolving and the Screen Makers Conference provides opportunities to create a career path into the industry, through accessing the marketplace, fostering creative collaborations and facilitating networking opportunities.
